Sierra's foothills

We spent the afternoon in Fresno doing some shopping and a little Honda service. On the way home, we took a small road (road 400 is the official name) that took us by a reservoir, thru the golden hills of California and eventually Coarsegold.

The Valley Oak is the most predominate oak in the area.

As you can see the effect of the one of the driest years on record is taking it's toll.

Coarsegold Creek runs right thru the camp property we are camped on. You'd have to have some prospective of history to imagine just how much gold was laying in this and other creeks for easy pickings in 1849. When these creeks overflow, because of rains, the heavy gold will get trapped in the crags and cracks of the bedrock.
