Dunsmuir Area

Took a sunny day drive around Mt. Shasta today.
The morning started out with a "pancake breakfast" which was a benefit breakfast for the Mountain Gate Volunteer Fire Department.

The big draw for the breakfast was a "shine and show" for older cars, " Kool April Nites", which is a week long car show all around the Redding area .

First stop, Castle Crags State Park...a beautiful mountain outcropping.

We love the crisp cold mornings.

Near Castle Crags is the "Rail Road Resort" which is cool. You can stay in any of the 24 cabooses made up as bedrooms.

For just $120 you could wake up to views like this.

Mt Shasta peak from the south near Weed, Ca

Old red shed in Doris, Ca on hwy 97 just a couple miles south of the Oregon border.

I love water towers, this one is also in Doris, Ca.

Grass Lake (once a lake now a swamp) had a 34 room hotel on it's shore in the early 1900's until some bonehead set off some dynamite in the lake. Unfortunately the thin lava crust was broken and the lake drained...so now it's a swamp with no hotel (but beauitful grasslands)!

Great area for photography.

Ok, one more shot of Mt. Shasta peak only this time from the north. We waited quite a while for a break in the clouds...this is the best we got.
