Goodbye North Fork... Hello St. Regis, Montana

We had to say goodbye to our wonderful stay in North Fork, Idaho, the friends we met again and the ones who are new to us. Everyone we bumped into were great company... our hope is to see them all at one time or another in our future travels.

The first night was at May Creek Campground on the Montana Highway 43 towards Wisdom. I had read online that some folks in a 38 foot motorhome had plenty of room, so a 40 footer is not that far away. Donna checked it out ahead of time with the car and said "come on in" even though 30 foot is considered the maximum on the U.S. website.

How could you not like a site that borders the national forest, no amenities to speak of other than a vault toilet but with miles and miles of that "back to nature" feeling for $3.50 a night. It is supposed to be $7 but the interagency old age pass cuts 50% off.

Other than a few "meat bees" buzzing around, it was a cool and quiet retreat at approximately 6350 elevation. Kind of nice to wake up in the morning to a chill that requires us to turn on the heater for a few minutes.

Such a pretty and clear creek, (May Creek) whether the sun is up or on its way down.

Believe it or not, less than three months earlier Donna was testing the strength of the jeans stitching when we decided enough is enough. We have both trimmed down somewhat
(I've lost 30 lbs & she has lost 23 lbs) but Donna's look more dramatic than mine. I am hopeful we can continue our more reasonable eating habits.

Just 11 miles down the road from our campground was the town of Wisdom, Montana. We have been to Wisdom at least four times in the past but always enjoy driving through the "Big Hole Valley".

This nest at the north entrance to Wisdom has been occupied each of the last three years that we have been coming here.

The lady who bought the "Hook and Horn" last year was a blast to talk to...but seeing that we had been driving in the evening to spot some wildlife I knew it would be closed.

There is just something a little rude about living in a valley called "Big Hole" because it seems everything is named "Big Hole Bar", "Big Hole Gas" or "Big Hole Proctology". (ok, the last might be a stretch but you get the idea)

We have noticed this barn on the outskirts of Wisdom with a large "OK" on the barn roof. I keep forgetting to ask in town what's with the "OK" and the internet yielded no results so unless someone can fill in the blanks I'm still at a loss.

We did see a herd of cows in the valley. This one had over a thousand head but we did see a herd that had three times as many cattle in another field.

No deer, moose, elk or beaver were seen but we did spot some pronghorn who are commonly misidentified as "antelope".

We are now at the Nugget RV Park in the tiny town of St. Regis, Montana. How do I find great places to stay?  While not 100% successful in my endeavor, I do use all available sources to scout out places we might enjoy. Price, accommodations and reviews by other RV'ers always help.
The Nugget is rated 9. 9.5 and 10 out of a maximum of 10 by Sams RV Club, $34 per night...not unreasonable, great reviews by other RV'ers... all help in pinning down a place to stay.
