Salem, Oregon

                                             This is Donna

My first days in Salem were interesting. The Willamette River runs right through the middle of Salem with many river walks and an "obligatory" river boat.

Many of Salems building are historic as is this one. But it wasn't the style of the building that did it for me, "The Meyers Building", it was the name of the business..."Whitlock's Vacuum Cleaner Clinic".

This is one of the older buildings from a more stylish time period in history, the Masonic Temple erected in 1912.

The Reed Opera house was built in 1870.  The Capitol Theater,
businesses and many shops now occupy it.

The next stop on my tour of Salem is the State Capital.  At first glance, the building from the outside is not really impressive. But...

The inside is another story altogether, very beautiful with
lots Montana marble and murals of Oregon's history.

The current governor is John Kitzhaber, his official portrait is
reminiscent of California's Governor Brown of the 1970's,
very laid back.

Helena gave me a great private tour of the capitol, its history and
Oregon's history in general, thanks.

This is our second State Capitol tour and in both buildings
the Senate and House of Representative Chambers were nearly identical.
