I remembered stopping here two years before and thought this would be a great spot to stay a week or so...I was correct. Older but very clean bathroom and showers, level and on the river but most of all...affordable.
Mike and Teri the managers, had just opened after being closed all winter. The federal government dictates that in the winter all property owners within 200 feet of the river have to move out within 10 minutes because of flooding. We were the first of the season but as you can see it is foggy, cool and the salmon have not yet started running up the river.
Being able to pull straight in facing the Klamath River was such a plus for us, anytime we can face any water is irresistible. Can you believe this view, all utilities include, for $105 per week?
Donna is standing on the soon to be launched boat dock at the RV park. They have to wait for a very calm day to bring a crane from Eureka in order to put the dock out in the river.
The Yurok Indian tribe have control of the Klamath River from the mouth all the way up 43 miles of river and a mile deep inland on both sides.
This is all that’s left of the original bridge that was destroyed in 1964 during the Christmas week storm that brought 24 inches of rain...they called it a 1000 year flood.
Just 100 feet from the destroyed bridge is was some fairly new evidence that the river valley is ever changing.
Hey, we found a “real slug-bug”. If my granddaughter was here, she would smack my arm and yell “yellow slug-bug!”
After the Japanese hit Pearl Harbor and shot up a couple freighters on the California coast the government decided to put radars on the hillside. So the enemy wouldn't notice the radar, it was housed in a “farmhouse” looking building complete with fake windows.
Donna, the war has been over for more than 60 years so I don’t think anyone will answer.
As you can see this could very easily be mistaken for any west coast farm house. These building are in very good condition so it is nice to see that people have protected their history.
