Backroads of Montana

Drove up late in the day to Hamilton, Montana trying to get out of the smoke from the fires in North Fork, Idaho. When we reached Hamilton you could see a wall of smoke to their north from Montana's own fires.

This is what we are trying to get out of....yuck!

We decided to take Montana road #38 up to Skalkaho Pass, & hoped it would get us out of the smoke which was correct, because shortly after being on the road we saw blue water and clear skies.

This dirt road up and over the pass was radical to say the least!

Skalkaho Falls near the top is beautiful and full for this time of the year.

Donna thought this tree growing on top of the large rock was interesting...she was right as usual.

Early dinner for us at the top of the pass.

After a long hike we made it to the top at 7250 feet. Well, the hike was actually from the car about 25 feet away.

This small meadow lake high up in the mountains...notice the clear air?

Coming down the opposite side of the pass on our dirt road, Donna started hyperventilating while bouncing up and down. I was worried the altitude finally got to her before she could finally spit out...MOOSE!

I have not seen Donna this excited in 5 years (inside joke).
Bullwinkle at first look like a statue until he walked across the road right in front of us.

We would like to have our house just about here.

The evening closes through smoke filled skies.
